The Nigerian Bar Association, Benin (Lion) Branch, has paid glowing tribute to the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Sir (Chief) Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, CFR, on his 92nd birthday, describing him as “an outstanding embodiment of vision, enterprise, philanthropy and service to humanity.”
In a congratulatory message signed by the Branch Chairman, Omorodion Omoigui, Esq., the NBA Benin said the Esama’s life and achievements have left an enduring impact on Edo State, Nigeria, and the wider African community.
The statement highlighted Chief Igbinedion’s legacy as a pioneering entrepreneur, renowned industrialist and institution-builder with significant contributions across education, aviation, hospitality, media, healthcare, finance and industry.
The Branch specifically noted his establishment of Igbinedion University, Okada, Nigeria’s first private university, as a landmark achievement in the development of private tertiary education in the country.
Beyond business, the NBA also acknowledged the Esama’s contributions to the growth of the legal profession, noting his support for Bar institutions and his longstanding commitment to the development of the Nigerian Bar Association.
He added that Esama’s journey from humble beginnings in Okada to becoming one of Nigeria’s most distinguished traditional leaders, business magnates and philanthropists is a compelling illustration of the power of vision, courage, perseverance and service,” the statement read.
The NBA Benin Branch said it is honoured to celebrate “a revered living legend, distinguished son of Edo and valued friend of the legal profession” on the milestone.
The Bar joined the Benin Kingdom, the people of Edo State, and well-wishers across Nigeria and beyond in celebrating 92 years of an extraordinary life of service and achievement, praying that God continues to preserve the Esama in sound health for many more years.
