Plateau relaxes curfew in Jos North LG

The Plateau State Government has eased the curfew earlier imposed on Jos North Local Government Area following improved security in the area.

The Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Ramnap noted that the adjustment takes effect from April 1, 2026.

She explained that the curfew, which was initially declared for 48 hours, will now run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily to allow residents to attend to their normal activities within the permitted hours.According to the statement, the decision followed the relative calm recorded after the recent violent attack on residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area.

“In light of the relative calm recorded after the recent violent attack on citizens of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, the Plateau State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has announced the relaxation of the 48-hour curfew earlier imposed on the area.“Effective from April 1, 2026, the curfew will now be observed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents are hereby permitted to carry out their lawful activities within the stipulated hours,” the statement read.

Ramnap urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding while security agencies continue to monitor the situation closely.

She also commended the public for their cooperation during the enforcement of the restriction and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The curfew was initially imposed after gunmen attacked residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos, leaving at least 28 people dead.

Authorities said the relaxation followed improvements in the security situation as efforts to restore lasting peace continue.
