A former Special Adviser to Edo State Government on Education, Doctor Rosalin Etiti Okosun has been awarded an Honourary Doctorate Degree in Law by Western University, London, Ontario, Canada.
The award was presented to the recipient by the President of Western University, Ontario Canada Dr Alan Shepard, during the institution’s convocation.
Conferring the Honourary Doctorate Degree in Law on Dr Rosaline Etitit Okosun, the President, Western University, London, Ontario, Canada, Dr Alan Shepard eulogised Dr Rosalin Etiti Okosun as an inspirational educator ,leader and advocate for human rights with over 30 years in teaching and leadership experience and impacts in Nigeria, Australia and Canada.
Doctor Shepard said Dr. Okosun’s role as a broadcaster on the famous Radio Kudirat in the enthronement of Nigeria’s democracy, navigating through the dark era of military dictatorship when she had to flee the country is legendary and worthy of emulation.
The President, Western University said the institution is proud to associate with Dr Roralin Okosun who was the first president of the Association of Nigerians Abroad (ANA), where she worked tireless with other ANA members to lobby various governments abroad to isolate the military junta and their families .
He disclosed that Dr Okosun’s time in Canada showcased her as a dedicated educator whose footprints and fingers remains visible 24 years after her retirement from the Thomas Valley District school board in Ontario Canada
While commending Dr Rosalin Okosun’s leadership dispositions as the current chair of Edo Women’s Development initiative in tackling social issues affecting women in Nigeria ,Dr Shepard eulogised the award recipient for her advocacy achievement as the president and founder of the association against women export and the association against women exploitation and degradation AAWE
Earlier the Honourary awardee who was also the guest speaker at the Western University convocation in a lecture urged the graduating students to have self-belief in taking on the world to make a great impact and to be good ambassadors of the institution
Dr Rosalin Etiti Okosun holds a doctorate degree in education, Finders university, South Australia, bachelor and Master of Education degrees from university of Missouri.
