EDOHERMA Meets Stakeholders on Enforceable Regulatory Standards to Drive SHINE Agenda

As part of efforts towards the actualisation of the Sen. Monday Okpebholo-led administration’s SHINE Agenda, the Edo State Health Regulation and Monitoring Agency (EDOHERMA), has organised a one-day event to critically review and update regulatory guidelines for all health facility types in the State.

The engagement tagged Project “Safecare Edo,” which held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Acedemy (JOOPSA), in Benin City, brought together stakeholders in the Healthcare ecosystem, to brainstorm and make recommendations for practical, and enforceable regulatory standards, aligned with the EDOHERMA Law

In an address, the Chief Executive Officer of EDOHERMA, Dr. Adesuwa Urhoghide-Edigin, she appreciates the Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo for the opportunity given to her to serve the people of the State and restated her resolve to accomplish the objectives of the Agency, which is to regulate and monitor health care facilities in across the State. She solicited the collaboration of stakeholders in the Health Sector enhance the status of the State to become a preferred destination for medical tourism in Nigeria and beyond.

The engagement included deliberations by various health professionals and associations, who made recommendations, which were presented by representatives of the respective groups. The Agency assured the judicious use of the recommendations, stating that such would be part of the regulatory guidelines for monitoring and enforcement of all health facility types.

Stakeholders at the engagement included the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshimole, the Edo state House of Assembly Chairman of Health Committee, (Dr.) Richard Osaro Edosa; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Andrew Iyamu; and a former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Patrick Okundia. Others were representatives from Nursing services, Obstetrics Gaenacology (IVF), Mortuary services, Dental services, Clinic and Hospital services, Medical Laboratory services, Alternative Medicine, Physiotherapy services, Pediatric services, Optometrist/Eye Clinic services, Emergency services, and Radiological services.

Professional associations present are the Nigerian Medical Association, Nigerian Dental Association, Nigeria Society of Physiology, AGPNP, NUJ, AIMPM, MEDHA, GMLD, HMA, NMA, AMLSN, UBTH, AMDMP, NANNM.
