Abuja, Nigeria – The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has expressed deep concern over the escalating hardship faced by the people of Edo State, describing the situation as “unprecedented” and “alarming”.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, CRPP lamented that Edo State is at a standstill, with insecurity, kidnapping, unemployment, and poverty reaching new heights.
The group condemned Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration for its “lackadaisical and nonchalant attitude” towards the playing challenges.
“Edo State is in a state of emergency, with citizens grappling with unbearable hardships. The heat of poverty is staring us in the face, and we’ve never had it this bad in Edo,” Dr. Isibor stated.
The CRPP chairman noted that the recent protest by youths and citizens in Benin City was a desperate cry for help, highlighting the government’s failure to address the people’s playing needs. “Wherever you turn to in Edo State, it is lamentation. The situation is dire, and the governor seems unmoved.”CRPP listed the state’s woes, including:Insecurity at its worst state ever ,Kidnapping rampant, Unemployment soaring, Exorbitant house rent, Lack of infrastructural development, Bad and unmotorable roads, Non-functional health centers, Entrepreneurs fleeing the state due to high operational costs
The coalition expressed support for the peaceful protest, urging the state and federal governments to take immediate action.
CRPP called on Governor Okpebholo to “wake up to his responsibilities or resign,” citing his administration’s “bereft of ideas” to tackle the state’s problems.
Instead of addressing Edo’s challenges, CRPP alleged that the governor is focused on securing the 2027 presidential ticket for his “Master” and rigging the upcoming local government elections.
The statement concluded with a stern warning: “The people of Edo State will not be taken for granted. We demand change, and we expect Governor Okpebholo to act now or step aside.”
