BREAKING: Peter Obi escapes assassination as thugs invade ADC meeting in Edo

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Benin City, Edo State, while attending an African Democratic Congress (ADC) meeting.

The attack happened when armed individuals followed Obi’s delegation from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of former APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and opened fire on the gate, destroying several vehicles

The incident occurred during the formal declaration of Olumide Akpata into the ADC, and eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes as supporters and party leaders fled for safety. No fatalities have been confirmed, but the attack has raised concerns about political violence and the safety of political actors in Nigeria .

The ADC has called for an immediate and thorough investigation, condemning the attack as an assault on democracy. Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement, and it’s unclear if any arrests have been made .
